We’re pleased to share more information about all the new processes we’ve implemented within our business operations. Giving you more insight and a better understanding of why these changes were necessary and what they mean for you, our valued customers.

IMPROVED WORKFLOW

Our new distribution centre has been carefully designed to optimise speed and efficiency. From Goods-Inwards, Quality Checks, Stocking, Picking, Packing, to Dispatch, every aspect has been meticulously planned. By introducing new systems, we’ve streamlined complex processes and enhanced key operational elements.

GOODS-INWARDS

With the addition of seven dock loaders capable of operating simultaneously, we’ve significantly improved the unloading and loading process. For example, when containers arrive and reverse up to the bays the unloading process via the conveyor system is much smoother, working at the same level makes moving stock from the front to the rear of the container faster. This allows us to handle stock quicker and with greater precision. Ensuring received stock is quality-checked and available for picking or dispatching within hours of the consignment’s arrival.

QUALITY CHECKS

Having the space to locate quality control checks at the goods-inwards location is crucial to ensuring that only high-quality, accurate, and compliant products enter the warehouse system. ØRN must ensure that what arrives at the distribution centre meets our checks for the following:

• Ordered quantity
• Quality verification
• Product specification

These efforts reduce errors, ensure accurate stock records, and prevent damaged goods from entering the system. By catching potential issues early, we can avoid passing faulty products on to our customers.

PRODUCT STORAGE

Every aspect was carefully considered, from adding a new walkway through the centre of all four chambers to significantly widening aisles with fast-moving stock. We also designed all aisles to be open-ended, reducing congestion during picking. These improvements allow employees to work seamlessly and efficiently within the rows of newly installed aisles and to navigate the space safely while forklift trucks unstack or rack pallets.

STOCK MANAGEMENT

The enhanced flow of goods has also strengthened stock integrity. By minimising manual handling and implementing a more organised unloading system, we’ve created a seamless process that ensures every item is properly accounted for. To support this, we’ve introduced a dedicated inventory team responsible for monitoring stock accuracy and maintaining the highest operational standards. This team oversee stock flow, ensuring items are regularly counted and labelled with dates and signatures, which enhances accountability and promotes better stock management and awareness.

DISPATCH

With so much space at the new distribution centre we now have the ability to establish a dedicated packing / dispatch area. This has significantly improved the process by allowing us to load the trailer throughout the day. Previously, dispatching goods required waiting for the trailer to arrive before loading. Now, employees can load orders immediately after picking and packing using hand pallet trucks. This ensures that packed goods are moved into the dispatch trailer continuously throughout the day, streamlining the entire process from picking and packing to dispatch.

When a warehouse can accommodate over 8,000+ pallets, the potential for new opportunities becomes limitless. One of these developments is the creation of a dedicated promotion aisle. Previously, our promotional materials were located across various locations, but with the new, expanded space, we now have the perfect opportunity to consolidate all promotional materials into one well-organised, prominent aisle. This strategic move not only enhances efficiency but also ensures that our promotional materials are easily accessible and ready for fast delivery.
